History Timeline

2011

  • Club founded by Phil Tovey, named the Dukes after the initial club rooms, Iron Duke Hotel in Waterloo. Colours of black and white chosen to mimic the Barbarians strip, bringing players of various playing backgrounds together under the one club.
  • Phil Tovey elected inaugural president

2012

  • Dukes finish season 10th of 12 teams (Meldrum Cup)
2012 – The originals… (Wentworth Park, Glebe)
  • George Horne appointed coach, replaced by Phil Tovey & Kevin Addison
  • Alexandria Dukes officially affiliated to NSW Subbies and will compete in Division 6 for season 2012 playing out of McKay Oval 2, Centennial Park, Randwick
  • First trial match (played in the 3/4 sleeve, cotton orange jerseys – vs Notre Dame/Killara-West Pymble)
  • First NSW Subbies match & win (vs Terrey Hills)
  • Inaugural Club Captain Billy Hodgetts is nominated + Dukes make “Manly Daily” local paper for dressing in drag post match for Mothers Day bus trip (vs Savers)
  • Winger Dennis Lee sets club record 20 tries on the season (2nd overall for NSW Subbies in 2012) and is nominated for the 2012 Meldrum Medal (best player in the competition)

2013

  • Dukes finish season 8th of 10 teams (Meldrum Cup)

2014

  • Dukes 1st XV finish 5th of 8 teams (Meldrum Cup) + Dukes 2nd XV finish 5th of 20 teams (Halligan Cup)
2014 Subbies Sevens (Wills Ground, Earlwood)
  • First Sevens match & win (vs Lane Cove)
  • First 2nd XV match & win (vs Colleagues)
  • Mark Geddes & Joel Horcroft-Smith appointed coach

2015

  • Dukes 1st XV finish 7th of 8 teams (Meldrum Cup – South East) + Dukes 2nd XV finish 9th of 30 teams (Halligan Cup)

  • Billy Hodgetts elected president
  • Nana Dontoh appointed coach, replaced by Tony Gudgeon & David Mangan
  • Dukes move to new home ground Booralee Park, Botany and new club rooms Captain Cook Hotel, Botany

2016

  • Dukes 1st XV finish 15th of 15 teams (Meldrum Cup) + Dukes 2nd XV finish 33rd of 40 teams (Halligan Cup)

  • Jonathan Row elected president

2017

  • Dukes 1st XV finish 6th of 8 teams (Jeffery Cup) + Dukes 2nd XV finish 1st of 5 teams (Noice Cup Minor Premiers) and 6th of 27 teams (Halligan Cup). 2nd XV lose Grand Final (vs Lane Cove)
Dukes seconds – 2017 Minor Premiers (Woollahra Oval, Rose Bay)
  • Andrew Johnson appointed coach
  • Dukes nominate for Division 5 and are accepted by NSW Subbies
  • Dukes play 100th fixture

2018

  • Dukes 1st XV finish 8th of 8 teams (Jeffery Cup) + Dukes 2nd XV finish 6th of 6 teams (Noice Cup) and 11th of 22 teams (Halligan Cup)
