Alexandria Dukes Presentation Night 2014

The War Diaries

Best Forward Tom O’Connor

The Alexandria Dukes RFC held their annual presentation night at the Iron Duke Hotel in Alexandria on Saturday. Phil Tovey was MC for the night in his final act as outgoing President, and was thanked for his service to the club by all members.

It was excellent to see that the awards were not dominated by any particular player or vintage of players, with awards split evenly between new and established players. The only player to win two awards on the night was Hooker Zak Pohiva who took home both the Players Player and Player of the Year awards. The full list of winners is:
Best Forward: Tom O’Connor
Coach’s Award Jacob Jones

Best Back: Cameron Dombkins

Halligan Cup Player of the Year: James Manderson

Rookie of the Year: Alex Cavanaugh

Players Player: Zak Pohiva

Iron Duke Shield: George Hicks

Player of the Year: Zak Pohiva

President’s Award: James Schulz

Coach’s Award: Jacob Jones

Club Person of the Year: William Hodgetts

Best Back Cameron Dobkins

After the ceremony, many of the boys headed towards Surry Hills where they were entertained by Gorden Tallis and his trip to the bathroom at The Forresters and a spectacular car crash at The Excelsior before the night disappeared into a haze of celebration and unexplained injuries (particularly to Jacob Jones, although no one at the club would go on record as saying that they were surprised).

With the Presentation complete, the 2014 season for Alexandria Dukes RFC comes to a close with the distinction of being the clubs most successful to date. A safe and productive off-season is predicted, with the commitee meeting shortly to being plans for The Dukes 2015 campaign. Until then, all current and future players can stay up to date on this blog and on our Facebook page.
