Dukes on a streak for Ladies Day

3 weeks ago after suffering a huge defeat to Clovelly, the Dukes set themselves a goal to win their last 5 matches of the season.  So far that goal has been met with 2 wins over Burraneer and ICMS.

The Dukes have been playing some good rugby this season, but the results have not fallen their way, with 8 games this season being lost by 10 points or less.  But this has not dampened the appetite, and the Dukes are focussed on playing some good rugby for the rest of the year.

The last 2 weeks a have been very impressive, with wins coming from strong defence and some discipline which had been missing towards the end of some games.  The ICMS scoreline was a lot less than it could have been with ICMS team calling uncontested scrums after losing 5 against the head in the first half.  The Dukes scrum being de-powered meant a big part of our game was lost. But a win is a win and the beers tasted alot better for the last 2 Saturdays

On a sad note the ICMS players could not make it back for the post match and we had to improvise.  A forwards vs Back boat race occurred and an event which may never be seen again occurred…. The backs won a boat race.

Points from last week went to

  • 1pt – Malcolm (Greagan)
  • 2pts Joel (Junk Yard)
  • 3pts ARock (Rambo)

This week the Dukes take on Terrey Hills in the washed out round 11 match.  It also happens to be the Dukes Ladies day.  Last years day was ruined when the rugby gods took on the rain gods and lost.  However this year looks more promising.

Ladies Day will kick off at 2pm with the match kicking off at 3:15.  We invite all Dukes, Duchesses, family and friends to join us at McKay Oval No.1.  It’s the first time we have been able to play on the No.1 in two seasons and hopefully it will make for a great spectacle.
After the match we will be returning to the club rooms at The Iron Duke Hotel where ladies day continues with “Taking Care of Business” Playing from 6 til 9pm.
