Dukes set to hit Mudgee Sevens

October 10 will see Dukes Rugby playing in their 3rd ever Sevens tournament, and the 2nd time participating in the Mudgee Sevens taking place at Glen Willow Sports Complex. The team the Dukes will be sending out are a mixture of forwards and backs as well as youth and experience to try and bring home the Oriental Hotel Cup. Last year the Dukes were placed in a very difficult pool and failed to notch up a win but were competitive in all games.

First ever Sevens tournament for the Dukes in February 2014 at Canterbury

The competition itself has been run annually since 1988 and has featured Cup winners such as Shute Shield teams Manly, Gordon and West Harbour. The competition also attracts some international flavour as well, as the are expected to be international invitational sides. Other winners have come from Suburban Rugby as well with both St Pats and Canterbury both taking away the major prize in previous years.

The trip will also double as somewhat of an end of season trip. All players and supporters are invited to join the team on their trip to Mudgee. For those that can’t make it, stay tuned to this webpage as well as the Dukes Facebook page for all updates over the course of the tournament.
