Dukes Rugby is proud and extremely excited to announce our first ever Old Boys Day!
Dukes and Duchesses, Players, Coaches and Supporters from our first 5 years in existence, you are invited to come along to Booralee Park, Botany on the 8th of August to celebrate our inaugural Old Boys Day (which also happens to be our final match for 2015).
This day also coincides with the final game of our President Emeritus – Phillip Tovey. Phil is someone all Dukes would know either from playing with him on the field, or as the man who founded the club. Many don’t know of the tremendous work he has put in over the first years of our young club. While the day is our Old Boys Day, we ask all friends, family members, former and current teammates of Phil to show support for him as he runs out on the rugby field for the final time is his career.
The day’s proceedings will begin with a VERY light warm up for our “Surly Seconds” at approximately 1.30 pm. A 2 pm kick off time has been tentatively set for the game, due to be played against an opponent to be advised. For this game we want as many past Dukes to pull on the Black and White stripes one more time. If you know of any able bodied Duke, bring them down and they WILL get a game. Even if you can only give 10 minutes on the field, we’re more than happy for this to happen as the game will be unlimited interchange.
After this game (that will be an amazing spectacle!), it will be followed by our First Grade side taking on Clovelly at 3.15 pm. While the Dukes haven’t had a stellar season, they will be looking to finish on a high note with a win in front of our Old Boys crowd on “Sunshine Hill”. Post match will be taking place at our major sponsor for the 2015 season – The Captain Cook Hotel, Botany.
NOW! The are many Old Boys who are saying “maybe”, “I’m thinking about it”, “we’ll see”, “I’m not sure”…the solution? Contact as many former teammates as you can and get them to dust off the boots and come down for a run and a beer! Below is a list of CONFIRMED Old Boys set to turn up and have a laugh in Seconds!
