President's Address

On behalf of all our members and committee, I am delighted to extend a very warm welcome to all players, officials and supporters visiting Alexandria Dukes RFC throughout this season.  It is a particular joy and honour for me to be the Inaugural President of the Alexandria Dukes RFC.

Since the initial seeding of the Alexandria Dukes late last year the committee have been working hard to build a fun, social environment, where rugby can be played and enjoyed by players and spectators of all ages, where those involved are proud to be apart of Alexandria Dukes RFC.  I thank the committee for their efforts thus far, and look forward to working with you throughout the season.

We aim to be recognised as a leading club in NSW Suburban Rugby Union as we strive for excellence not only on the pitch but also through our coaching, volunteering, involvement with schools and reaching out to the local community.
Our first club event, The World’s Greatest Shave, was a huge success, where the club and the community came together for a fantastic cause.  I would like to thank all the people who put their heads, moustaches and eyebrows up for shaving.  Congratulations to Lindsey Henshall for her achievement in excess of $2,500 on the night and $10,000 in total, which was doubled by her employers.

Our next club event will be on ANZAC Day so look out for more details at www.alexandriadukesrfc.com, on the upcoming events page.

I would particularly like to thank our sponsors who have contributed so valuably to the beginning of our club, without your commitment we would not be able to offer a Rugby team to the South Sydney area. We hope that our association can be mutually beneficial through this year and the years to come.

Our major sponsor, the Iron Duke Hotel is also the venue for our club rooms, and I invite all players and spectators to come back for the Post match awards.  The Iron Duke house band, “Dukes of Hazard”, will be playing at the club rooms, and we will have our first club members draw, so come back and have a drink, watch a replay of today’s game in the Firkin Tree garden bar and enjoy the evening.

Club memberships for 2012 are $50, and include a club Polo shirt as well the members draw and access to many NSWRU, ARU and Club benefits

Finally, may I Congratulate Billy Hodgetts on being voted by the players as Club Captain for 2012, and wish our Inaugural coach George Horne, and all of our player’s success this year.  The commitment shown at training and trials has been excellent.  I can see good results ahead as we all come together from many backgrounds to be a strong unit
