What's Occurring?

Season 2014 is ramping up and now its time to put any fears behind and start the hard contact with a huge season of Dukes Rugby ahead.

Our 2nd Bunnings BBQ for the year is on this Saturday 15th, and we’ll need your support down at Mascot Bunnings.  Speak to Billy at training on Thursday to get your time as the Tong Master.
The Dukes start our 2014 crusade in 3 weeks with the Subbies 7’s on the 28th Feb and 1st March. It is the Inaugural competition and will be a good test for how our fitness is progressing as well as playing against some of the larger clubs in the suburban competition
The 2nd week of trials was meant to be Propfest, Rugby for the larger man.  Unfortunately In light of this devastating news we are planning an intra club trial for the 8th March. This would be played early in the morning with a BBQ to follow for Players, Supporters and Family.

Propfest has been indefinitely postponed for 2014 with a chance that it may make the end of year events calendar.

The 15th March will be a full trial with opposition to be confirmed in the next week. Hoping to play later in the afternoon to beat the heat.
The 16th March will be our St Patrick’s Day party and club opening. There will be a St Patrick’s social golf day in the morning, otherwise known as “Paddy Shack 2014”, where you can mingle with your team mates as well as getting to network with the Dukes sponsors. The course will be confirmed in the next week with green fees and buggy costs for the day partly subsidized for fully paid members. Keep a look out for more details soon around course and costs.
After golf we will be returning to our club rooms at the Iron Duke Hotel to have a proper Sunday session with Green beer and our good friends The Insiders playing a few sets in the Tree and Firkin Beer garden bar.
There will be a chance to get your hands on some Dukes memorabilia with the 1st XV jerseys from our Inaugural season in 2012 being auctioned.
Saturday 22nd will be another we of trials and the Myall Mudcrabs are keen to host us up in Nelson Bay. You know what that means…….. ROAD TRIP!!!The costing of going away is looking like it will be $50 for accommodation and $20 for a gourmet BBQ at the Mudcrab club rooms. BBQ is not compulsory so you can eat what you like. But would be good to keep us all together.
The club will be putting  on a 25 seater mini bus so if your keen to go on tour and bond with your team mates over a few beers get your name down with Billy on Thursday this week with a financial commitment due by training on the following Tuesday.

Speaking of training we have one more week of 2 night sessions. Thursday 20th February after training we will be putting on a BBQ and beers with our great sponsors at the Australian Meat Emporium supplying the meat. Make sure you get down to training so Billy doesn’t eat it all.  Look for the Australian Meat Emporium weekly specials at http://www.meatemporium.com.au/ or drop in and see Ben and the crew at the warehouse at:

29 – 31 O’Riordan Street,
Alexandria NSW 2015
The 20th February will also double as a registration night where you can pay your subs. The subs are $170 for the season if you pay before the 1st March. Subs includes:

  • Club Membership;
  • Shorts;
  • Socks;
  • Club polo; &
  • Insurance.

A good deal in anyone’s language, with all club members to have an opportunity to win the badge draw after all games both home and away at the club rooms during the season. Prize jackpots if your not there to collect your prize.  Go to the Members page to pay via Paypal.

The Duke of Wellington

Our last trial will be on 29th March before the season proper starts on 6th April.  We are hoping to have the Inaugural Battle of Waterloo.  Just need to get the Harlequins to agree to a time and a place for the game.
